A landlord is a person who owns or holds real property and leases it to others. In common law it is the feudal lord who retained the fee of the land.

Many state laws will define the term "landlord" in the section of the state code dealing with landlord-tenant issues. For example, according to  the State of Florida the  definition of a landlord is the "the owner or lessor of a dwelling unit"
